Thailand Travel
Thailand - the Land of Smiles is one of the few countries in Southeast Asia where you won't mind getting lost. Thailand's allure is pure oriental fantasy - a dream blend of traditional and modern cultures. Visitors enjoy Thailand's diversity: the mountains and hill-tribes of Chiang Mai and the north, the beaches and marine life of Phuket and Koh Samui in the south, and of course the dynamic and always reinventing capital city, Bangkok.
The balance between comfort and excitement is near perfect. From the frenetic capital to the hill country gateway of Chiang Mai, Thailand is a place that can excite the mind, tantalize the senses and take care of most everyday needs. The country is generally quite safe, and it has decades of experience in catering to travelers.
The capital is Bangkok or Krung Thep Which means city of angels, the spiritual, symbolic and physical heart of the nation is home to seven million people. To the north is Chiang Mai, Thailand's second largest city and its oldest for it was founded in the late 13th century and is one of the oldest continually inhabited settlements in the country.
Thailand's islands and beaches are working definitions of heaven . And as for urban delights, the huge metropolis of Bangkok, although it can alarm with its chaos and its scale, tends to so charm visitors with its energy and cultural treasures that the steamy soupy diesel mixture that passes for air in this city is more than forgiven. Thailand is an easy country to travel in, with efficient transport, cheap accommodation and a delicious national cuisine.
Geography of Thailand
The country covers an area of 198,000 square miles, stretching from 5 to 21 degrees north of the equator. It lies between the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea. It is bordered by Myanmar to the west and north, Laos to the north-east, Cambodia to the east and Malaysia to the south. The kingdom has four very different regions. The North is mountainous. The Central Plains are a fertile rice bowl. The North-east is an upland plateau. The South is a peninsula lined with stunning tropical beaches and enticing islands.
Climate of Thailand
Thailand lies within the humid tropics and remains hot throughout the year. Average temperatures are about 29oC, ranging in Bangkok from 35oC in April to 17oC in December. There are three seasons: winter (November to February), summer (April to May), and the rainy season (June to October), though downpours rarely last more than a couple of hours.
History of Thailand
According to archaeological discoveries Thailand is the country where some 5,600 years ago the world's oldest Bronze Age civilization was flourishing around the north-east hamlet of Ban Chiang. Before the establishment of Thailand, the Thais had established small northern city states in Lanna, Phayao and Sukhothai in the early 1200 AD. In 1238, two Thai chieftains rebelled against Khmer suzerainty and established the first truly independent Thai kingdom in Sukhothai.
Ayutthaya which was founded in 1350 was made the state capital. It remained the capital until 1767 when it was destroyed by Burmese invaders. Ayutthaya's was ruled by 33 kings in its 417 years of existence as the capital. The Thais brought their distinctive culture to full fruition, rid of their lands of Khmer presence and fostered contact with Arabian, Indian, Chinese, Japanese and European powers. Ayutthaya's destruction was as severe a blow to the Thais as the loss of Paris or London would have been to the French or English.
However, Thai revival occurred within a few months and the Burmese were expelled by King Taksin who later made Thon Buri his capital. In 1782, the first king of the present Chakri dynasty, Rama I, established his new capital on the site of a riverside hamlet called Bangkok. Two Chakri monarchies, Mongkut (Rama IV) who reigned between 1851 and 1868, and his son Chulalongkorn (Rama V, 1868-1910) saved Thailand from western colonization through adroit diplomacy and selective modernization.
Thai food
After visiting and experiencing the exotic locales of Thailand, If you have missed out the mouth watering cuisine's of Thailand, then your sojourn is a futile. Thai food is internationally famous. Whether chilli-hot or comparatively bland, harmony is the guiding principle behind each dish. Thai cuisine is essentially a marriage of centuries-old Eastern and Western influences harmoniously combined into something uniquely Thai. The characteristics of Thai food depend on who cooks it, for whom it is cooked, for what occasion, and where it is cooked to suit all palates.
With their Buddhist background, they dislike Large chunks of meat which is well reflected in their fooding habits. They prefer stewing and baking, or grilling. The thai cooking is influenced by the country lying next to it or the country by whom they were ruled. Frying, stir frying and deep-frying is seen as the influence of China. The hot and spicy food was influenced by Portuguese missionaries in 1600m AD.
A proper Thai meal should consist of a soup, a curry dish with condiments, a dip with accompanying fish and vegetables. A spiced salad may replace the curry dish. The soup can also be spicy, but the curry should be replaced by non spiced items. There must be a harmony of tastes and textures within individual dishes and the entire meal.
Recipes of Thailand
Some of the popular Thai dishes that grace the menus of any Thai restaurant. Kai Yang with Khao Niao and Som Tam Satay, Kaeng Khiao Wan Nuea, Stir-Fried Mixed Vegetables, Khao Phat, Thot Man Pla, Mi Krop, Tom Kha Kai etc.

Hong Kong is divided into four main areas - Kowloon, Hong Kong Island, the New Territories and the Outlying Islands. Kowloon and the New Territories are on a peninsula of the Chinese mainland, on the northern side of Victoria Harbour; Hong Kong Island is on the southern side of the harbour facing Kowloon; the Outlying Islands simply refers to any of the other 234 islands. The New Territories has a 20km (12mi) land border with China proper.
Hong Kong lacks a river system of any scope, the only exception being in the north where the Sham Chun River, which forms the boundary between Kwangtung and Hong Kong, flows into Deep Bay after collecting a number of small tributaries. Most of the streams are small, and they generally run perpendicular to the northeast-southwest trend of the terrain. The construction of reservoirs and their catchment systems has reduced the amount of fresh water available downstream.
Climate of Hong Kong
Hong Kong experience all the distinct four seasons, tropical monsoon; cool and humid in winter, hot and rainy from spring through summer, warm and sunny in fall
Culture of Hong Kong
Hong Kong developed initially on the basis of its excellent natural harbor (its Chinese name means "fragrant harbor") and the lucrative China trade, particularly opium dealing. Hong Kong culture has assimilated the best cultural aspect of all those who ruled it or the country surrounding it.At varying times, Cambodian culture also absorbed Javanese, Chinese, and Thai influences. Between the 9th and 15th centuries, a prosperous and powerful empire flourished in northwestern Cambodia. The Khmer kingdom of Angkor, named for its capital city, dominated much of what is now Laos, Vietnam, and Thailand. The kingdom drew its religious and political inspiration from India. The literary language of the court was Sanskrit; the spoken language was Khmer.
A peep into the History of Hong Kong
The first permanent settlement in what is today Hong Kong probably occurred about 2,000 years ago during the Han dynasty (206 bc-ad 220). Little growth took place until the 19th century, owing to China's imperial policy of inward development, with a focus away from developing the resources of coastal areas. Also, despite Hong Kong's proximity to the port city of Guangzhou, all foreign trade with China was controlled through a small Chinese merchant guild in Guangzhou known as the Co-hong, and contact with foreigners was highly restricted.
Before the British arrived in the mid-19th century, Hong Kong Island was inhabited only by a small fishing population, with few features to recommend it for settlement. It lacked fertile soil and fresh water, was mountainous, and was reputed to be a notorious haunt of pirates. But it was a relatively safe and undisturbed base for the British merchants who in 1821 began to use the fine harbour to anchor opium-carrying vessels. The great commercial and strategic significance of this deep, sheltered harbour, possessing east and west entrances and lying on the main trade routes of the Far East, was quickly realized.
The British, who wished to expand their trading opportunities along China's coast, became interested in Hong Kong in the early 19th century. They also desired a location to serve as a naval resupply point, similar to the role Singapore was playing at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. The trade of opium, a highly profitable product for British merchants and eventually an illegal import into China, led to the Opium Wars and Britain's acquisition of Hong Kong. In 1839 the Chinese Special Commissioner imprisoned some British merchants in Guangzhou and confiscated opium warehouses. The merchants were released, but the British foreign secretary, Lord Palmerston, dispatched naval forces and war ensued. The British had a superior naval force and won easily, occupying Hong Kong Island in 1841.
Sir Henry Pottinger became its first governor. Today, these first vestiges of British influence live on in a number of Colonial historical sites that rank among Hong Kong's most popular attractions. Despite British cynicism, Pottinger dedicated his time to building up Hong Kong's future as he realized its potential. He inspired long-term building projects and awarded land grants. In order to make peace with the Chinese, he sent his troops to the Chang Jiang (Yangtzi River) and threatened to attack Nanjing (Nanking). In August 1842, the Chinese yielded and the two governments signed the Treaty of Nanjing, which officially gave Hong Kong to the British. Major Attraction of Hong Kong

Australia Travel
Most people's conception of Australia goes little beyond appreciating its Opera house, blood - red Uluru (Ayers Rock), the Great Barrier Reef or the land of Kangaroos and Koala. Australia is the sixth largest country in the world. It's about the same size as the 48 mainland states of the USA and 50 per cent larger than Europe, but has the lowest population density in the world, only two people per square kilometers.
Australia offers a huge range of travel experiences that range from the blue mountains, the Tasmanian wilderness ,the cosmopolitan culture of Sydney, pristine beaches of Perth and how can one forget the Golden City , Kalgoorlie in Western Australia it is not only Australia's largest producer of gold but has the world's largest political electorate
Although it's true that the majority of travelers are attracted by these opportunities to explore Australia's wilderness areas, natural wonders and low-key rural charm yet there is a lot more that is offered to the traveler's in Australia. You will be amazed to know that Australia boasts over 7,000 beaches - more than any other nation.
Australia's Geography
Australia - The Land Down Under is located on the world's smallest continent. It lies between 110 and 155 degrees of longitude, about ten degrees south of the equator. Australia consists of two land masses: mainland Australia and Tasmania. It lies in the Southern Hemisphere and Australia's nearest neighbor is Papua New Guinea and 1920km west of New Zealand.
Australia has a very dramatic landscape. Australia is famous for its "outback," the remote lands of the interior. The desert outback covers most of the interior. It is too hot, dry and barren to support many people. Eastern Australia has large areas of grasslands, used primarily for sheep and cattle ranches.
Australia also has some mountainous areas and plateaus scattered throughout the country. The Blue Mountains, on the south-eastern end of Australia, get their name from the blue haze caused by oil droplets given off from the eucalyptus trees.
As an island, Australia also has many beautiful coastal beaches. It boasts of over 7,000 beaches. Off the northeast coast of Australia is the Great Barrier Reef. The Great Barrier Reef is over 1,200 miles of coral.
History
Overcrowded prisons in England and disruption caused by the American Revolution were two key reasons for the first shipment of convicts to the great southern land. It was the explorer and botanist Joseph Banks who, in 1779, suggested that New South Wales would be a fine site for a penal colony!
For more than 50,000 thousand years, Australia's aboriginal people have lived and thrived in Australia's unique and challenging natural environment. Australia's rich vegetation and native wildlife helped them establish their presence on the land. Today it is believed that the aboriginals are the world's oldest civilization.
This experience set in a land that for a hundred years remained at the ends of the world's transportation and communication lines bred a special frontier spirit and independent attitude. It persists today in every Aussie, who would "never let a mate down."
Multicultural Society
Australia is a multicultural society, predominately based on western origins. A large variety of ethnic groups exist in Australia. In fact, it is possible to find children who are fifth generation Jewish, fourth generation Chinese, and third generation Greek who continue to preserve aspects of their heritage. This cultural pluralism transpired as a result of immigration over several hundreds of years.
It is important not to make assumptions about the cultural uniformity of children born in Australia to Australian parents and not to except them to have the same cultural patterns as the Anglo-Australians. Ethnic groups in Australia have every right to be regarded as proper Australians. The most distinct ethnic group in Australia is the Aboriginal-Australians.

A meeting place since Roman times, the Bourg-de-Four is at the heart of the Old Town. The square, in reality more like a multi-leveled spiral, is dominated by café terraces, next to the 18th century fountain, book and antique shops and a very low-key police station.
Among the notable sights in the area is the Cathédrale St-Pierre. More important for its role in history than its aesthetic beauty, the Cathedral comprises a miscellany of pieces tacked on through the centuries. Archaeologists have discovered the ruins of a Roman temple (350AD) near the foundations of the Cathedral and the dig site is open to the public. For a superb view of the city, the North tower can be climbed for a small charge.
Maison Tavel, at 6, Rue Puits-de-St-Pierre, is the oldest house in Geneva. Now a city-owned museum, the multi-storied house exhibits objects from Geneva's past, with rooms decorated in period style. Another museum in this area, the Musee Barbier-Müller, holds a stunning collection of non-European artwork. The 126m long wooden bench located there is the longest in the world. In addition, chestnut trees blossoming in this delightful square traditionally signal the start of spring.
It is fair to assume that Tolstoy did not journey by pedal boat, or catamaran, both of which can be rented during summer months. If captaining your own craft does not appeal, there are many cruise options available.
Geneva City Center
It is difficult to isolate one point as being the city Centre. Historically, the Place du Bourg-de-Four in the Old Town would have been the main focus. From a practical point of view it is tempting to bestow this honor on the building on the Pont-de-la-Machine, which traverses the Rhone, between the left and right banks of the lake. Housed here is a branch of Geneva's tourist information Centre.
Zurich Schipfe
